On the early morning of 14th April 2024, my friends Gagan, Sneha, and I embarked on a day full of adventure, exploring the scenic spots around Periyar River. We left Kochi with excitement in our hearts, ready to discover the hidden gems of Kerala.
Our first stop was at a serene riverbank. The tranquil waters of the Periyar River were inviting, and we decided to spend some time there. I attempted to take underwater photos of the beautiful fish, but unfortunately, my phone got waterlogged and broke. Despite this mishap, we enjoyed the peaceful ambiance and the natural beauty around us.
We continued our journey to the Elephant Pass Ayurveda Yoga Retreat. The off-road adventure to reach the retreat was thrilling. The serene environment and the essence of Ayurveda provided a rejuvenating break from our usual routine.
Next, we visited the Kodanad Elephant Training Center and Deer Park (Kaprikkad Mini Zoo). Interacting with the elephants and observing the deer was a delightful experience. The center's efforts in training and caring for the elephants were impressive and heartwarming.
We then headed towards Paniyali Poru, but unfortunately, the ticket counter was closed by the time we arrived at 4:30 PM. Disappointed but undeterred, we explored the nearby Kochupurackal Kadavu Farm. We spent a long time playing in the water, and Sneha and Gagan humorously showcased their swimming skills, claiming to be international and national swimmers, respectively.
As the clock struck 6:00 PM, we reluctantly decided to head back. Just as we were leaving the river, a local couple arrived with their children for fishing. The woman, curious about how we discovered the place, shared fascinating stories about hidden caves in the river and warned us about aggressive elephants that roam the area after dusk. Her timely advice urged us to leave promptly and safely.
Despite the challenges and unexpected events, our day was filled with unforgettable moments and learning experiences. We returned to Kochi with memories of a journey that was as thrilling as it was enlightening.
